The bay, Los Cocos, Taganga or the mountains: here the sun always leaves to an audience.

Sunset spots
In Santa Marta the sunset is practically a standing appointment. The Camellón on the bay, facing El Morro, is the classic; Playa Los Cocos, by the Marina, is the quieter take; Taganga sets it over open sea, and from Minca you watch the whole city from above. The house has its own favourite too.
Don’t miss
- 1The Camellón Rodrigo de Bastidas: the sun drops over the bay with El Morro in view
- 2Playa Los Cocos, by the Marina, one of the best spots in town to watch it
- 3Taganga and its sunsets over the sea
- 4The Los Pinos viewpoint in Minca, with Santa Marta and the Ciénaga below
- 5The house’s “secret spot” — ask the Tía
What to expect
The plan is simple: arrive in good time, find somewhere to sit and don’t rush. The Camellón and Los Cocos are right in town, so after sunset you can stay on for dinner in the Centro. In Taganga the sun sets over the fishermen’s bay; read the safety section before staying late.
Minca is another league: the Los Pinos viewpoint is about two and a half hours’ walk from the village, or a moto-taxi ride, and the colectivos down don’t run after dark. If you want to see it, stay the night in Minca or arrange private transport back.
And if you’d rather not go far, ask the Tía about the house’s secret spot — she showed it off on Instagram in August 2026 with “a quick escape to watch the sunset”.
